Also known as 707 Headband or Sour Kush, Headband is the offspring of two powerhouse strains OG Kush and Sour Diesel. The quite peculiar name is derived from the hybrid’s ability to deliver a slight pressure around the crown of the head. This sensation is mostly described by many users as similar to wearing a headband.

Appearance

Headband’s colas are compact with about the size of a nugget and are lined with gorgeous brick red and orange pistils. The nobs are also flecked with luscious, silver trichomes which reflect its potent kick. This resin content makes it an easy choice for creating hash or other types of THC concentrates.

The leaves are usually tinted with pale or emerald green. But occasionally, certain phenotypes develop leaves with magenta hues. This is a result of the release of the plant pigment anthocyanin with the decreasing temperatures during the vegetative stage.

At full maturation, the plant displays the usual Indica appearance but with fewer leaves and a slightly shorter height.

Fragrance and Flavor

In a Headband-packed container, an overwhelming scent of citrus with skunk, wood, and diesel undertones are anxious to fill the entire room. When ground up, the fuel-like smell attributed to its parent strain, Sour Diesel, becomes more prominent. A few minutes after the first whiff of the beautiful chaos of aromas, the herb graces the senses with a bit of sweetness.

Flavor-wise, the thick yet unexpectedly smooth and calming clouds of potent smoke accentuate fresh aromas of lemons with a subtle hint of vanilla when breathe in. On the exhale, it exudes pungent tones of diesel, pine, and spice.

Effects

Despite its beauty and alluring scent and flavor, Headband is best-known for its signature cerebral impact. However, it also oozes health-giving rewards which are prized by medical consumers.

Recreational

Consumers initially experience a constricting sensation around the temples along with a bit of tingling due to the dilation of the blood vessels in the area. While this is a virtually immediate reaction for others, some may have to wait for up to 20 minutes for this to happen. After a short moment, an influx of creativity occurs, unlocking one’s maximum imaginative potential. It also spurs energy, uplifts the mood, and induces giggles, assuring a productive and great day ahead.

This sense of vigor slowly sinks in into a relaxing physical sensation which is accompanied by a cerebral buzz. Users might experience loosened inhibitions plus a warm feeling that rushes throughout the body. This feeling encourages partners to better express affection and even improve intimacy.

Despite its calming quality, however, it does not promote the couch lock effect. Instead, it still allows the user to function and complete daily tasks – an uncommon trait of Indica-dominant varieties as most often leads to a knockout. That being said, it is not a suitable variant for carrying out tasks that require full attention and focus as it vaguely clouds thinking. It is best as an evening strain or during non-active pastimes such as listening to music or watching movies.

It is safe to say that the cerebral effect of the hybrid is no joke. Being a descendant of heavy hitters, OG Kush and Sour Diesel, Headband possesses a potency like no other. With a whopping 20-27% of THC, even seasoned users experience hallucinations (mostly auditory) and a bit of a light head. Such effects also last longer than average strains according to high-tolerance consumers. So that’s a heads up for beginners.

Medical

The relatively slow-acting yet prolonged effects of Headband make it a suitable remedy for muscle aches, chronic fatigue, arthritis, and migraine. The hybrid also alleviates stress and depression thanks to its clear-headed buzz and soothing property. It also stimulates appetite which is beneficial to those with a reduced desire to eat as a result of pain, illness, or chemotherapy.

Headband is also wealthy in terpenes, which is not only responsible for its enticing aroma and taste but also contribute to its medicinal capacity. It particularly possesses limonene which produces the variant’s citrusy scent and flavor and also makes it an effective remedy for anxiety.

Moreover, the presence of the terpenoid myrcene does not only boost the strain’s potency but also delivers a calming vibe which is sought-after by medical users who suffer from chronic insomnia. This benefit is achievable when the herb is taken at slightly higher doses.

While its benefits are plenty, it also comes with a few minor drawbacks. Users commonly experience side effects such as dizziness, dry mouth, and bloodshot eyes. However, these are easily remedied with proper hydration and over-the-counter eye drops. Certain reports also indicate mild hallucinations and eye floaters at high quantities.

Growing Information

Headband is quite demanding to grow. For one, its broad fan leaves require pruning to ensure low growing flowering nodes. The plants should also be supplied with optimal nutritional requirements to grow vigorously. Moreover, because of its pungent and skunky smell, growers are required to take an extra step of isolating outdoor gardens or installing odor control setups indoors.

Nonetheless, cultivators with little to moderate experience still have a chance of rearing the strain due to its genetically-inherited resilience. The plant can withstand the threat of molds, diseases, and even minimal alterations in temperature. When fully grown, it also reaches up to 30 to 80 inches – an average height which does not require too much vertical space.

Headband grows best outdoors in warm, sunny climates, away from excessive rain or frost. However, it can also be grown in well-controlled indoor environments. Either way, cultivating it in soil brings out its maximum taste. Although, growing it in soilless media such as hydroponic setups or coco coir guarantees more pronounced recreational and medical effects, considering that the crops are flushed with a pH balanced solution for two weeks before harvest.

Within a span of 10 to 11 weeks, indoor growers can expect a bounteous harvest of 510 g/m2. When grown with utmost care outdoors, it yields 595 g/plant.

Headband Strain

Headband’s astounding blend of aromas and flavors have accumulated an outpour of positive feedback over the years. With a THC level of up to 27% (among the highest in the market) its soaring potency and overall pleasant smoke are also adored by many seasoned consumers.

Moreover, while Headband’s signature initial pressure around the temples might be a shock for others (especially newbies), it mellows down into a relaxing and mood-boosting euphoria that everyone will surely love.

Cultivating the strain requires patience, skill, and is more recommended for experienced growers. However, with a top-shelf by-product that offers a delightful flavor profile, a roller coaster ride of effects, and excellent yields, such pursuit is more than rewarding.
