Sour Diesel Autoflower seeds will produce plants that have simple growing requirements and a short life cycle. But despite these two major benefits, some growers are still wary of using this kind of seed. That is because the first generation of autos is unfortunately marked by subpar performance. Nevertheless, autoflowers have undergone a lot of changes and improvements. Nowadays, they are becoming a popular option for cultivators who are looking for a stress-free grow, and are especially suitable for novices.
Autoflowering strains are normal strains that have been crossbred with Cannabis ruderalis, a type of marijuana that flourishes in areas with shorter daylight hours. As a result, the auto plant will flower depending on its age, not on the amount of light and darkness it receives. It also tends to stay short, making it more manageable in all kinds of settings. Indoors, you do not need a lot of space. Outside, it is much easier to hide it from nosy neighbors. Being a smaller plant, it produces less yield, but rest assured that Sour Diesel Auto still has a formidable THC level of 20%. This strain is best grown indoors. This allows you to keep the environment as sterile as possible, since Sour D is prone to powdery mildew infestations. This fungal disease spreads quickly, and can reduce the quality and quantity of your yield. Maintain the relative humidity (RH) at 65 to 70% during the vegetative stage, and decrease it by 10 to 15% when the plant starts flowering in the eighth week. These dry conditions will help to prevent diseases. Furthermore, it needs plenty of light – at least 18 hours a day, or even 24 hours if you wish. You will not have to change the light schedule throughout the plant’s life cycle. As it matures, it will reach a height of 40 inches (1 meter) and give you a maximum yield of 6 ounces (170 grams) per square meter of growing space.
When grown outdoors, Sour Diesel Autoflower can get taller – sometimes up to 63 inches (1.6 meters). That is actually quite small compared to the photoperiod version which can achieve an astounding height of 6.5 feet (200 cm). The auto’s short stature will let you be more clandestine. However, take note that it exudes a very strong odor that is unmistakably ganja. The yield is also less – only 2 to 4 oz (60 to 120 g) per plant. For these reasons, we recommend that you grow indoors or in a grow tent.
These seeds are feminized which guarantees that your plants will be exclusively female. As this 2017 report explains, if you want smokable buds, male plants are pretty much useless and can even damage your crop. Eliminating the male sex chromosomes ensures that you will be able to harvest the highest possible yield from each plant.
