How weed works its magic on our brain is really one complex process. However, it is essential for us to know the process of how we get that “high” effect from weed.

Let’s start off with something everyone is familiar of, THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol is the chemical in the plant which make the users high, feel lightheaded, giddy and sometimes, relaxed.

Weed can be smoked, mixed with food, inhaled, taken as pills or consumed in an oil form. The oil form is very good to be used in kids who use marijuana as a medicine.

The THC enters your bloodstream and into your brain and they latch on those special receptors and then stimulate the release of dopamine. This then send signals to various parts of the body and makes you feel high.

But not all weed types can get you stoned because some also contain another chemical called CBD or cannabidiol. Marijuana plants that contain low THC and high CBD can work greatly as a medicine and they can treat things like epilepsy because the CBD chemical that marijuana plants also contain can quiet the excessive electrical and chemical activity of the brain.

There was this 3-year-old girl who would have 300 seizure attacks in a week to 2 attacks per month after her parents gave her cannabis with high levels of CBD.

Weed has some 500 different chemicals compounds and they all work together which is known as the entourage effect. It is important because you just can’t take chemical out of marijuana and produce a medicine, you will need the whole plant especially when it comes to using pot instead of the pills.
