There could be limited sources of Marijuana in the market. It could be because of the legal issues and restrictions on its production, cultivation, distribution and consumption. Although some states in the United States would allow it, it is only in restricted amounts and only for medical purposes. This means you can cultivate and grow weed seed at the comfort of your home but of course, in restricted number or amounts.

There are well over 2,000 unique marijuana strains out there and you need to pick the right type to grow in your grow room. We are talking about the types of cannabis species – Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. Although both have been proven to produce the same effect, it is Indica that has been commonly cultivated because of its smoke, although sativa is gaining popularity because it has a higher content of THC for a more speedy “high”.

Know the Weed Seed

When you pick a weed seed to germinate, you need to know what seed it will produce. You should make sure that the seeds you are germinating are female so it will continually produce. There are feminized seeds which are made to strict standards, chemically tested with at least 95% of the becoming female.

Autoflowering Seeds

There is also a hybrid seed called autoflowering seeds which will grow to a certain height and then start flowering (budding) with no change of light timing required and in turn, you can also get an autoflowering and feminized seeds from it. Clones on the other hand are the seeds taken from an existing plant. A clone from a friend’s plant will still have the same effect with its original plant and no fun surprises on quality or taste.

Sprouting

Germination is simply the act of getting a seed in the dormant state to sprout. After you have bought some quality, fresh weed seeds, there are three main conditions required to awaken the seed:

It is darkness, moisture and warmth.

As you will notice, light is not required because it may slow or hamper the speed of germination of the seed. There will be lots of methods to germinate these seeds but we will only discuss the easiest and most accessible.

Towel Method

This is a popular method that requires only paper towels and pan.

  1. Get a thick kitchen style paper towel and wet it thoroughly but not dripping.
  2. Place the blunt end of the seed onto the towel and leave it making sure it does not get any direct sunlight.
  3. Keep the seeds at about 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit like at the top of the refrigerator. Make sure that the towel never dries out because it will kill the seeds.
  4. Check every twenty four hours and you will notice most seeds will crack in 1 – 7 days. Once the roots are quarter or half inch in length, transfer the seeds carefully to your growing medium.

The seedlings are quite fragile at this stage and must be treated with great care so as to avoid damaging the tap root.

At this stage, sowing of the seed is necessary and should be taken with great care as it blooms into a plant.
